A little about me.
What inspired you to become a Support Coordinator?
What inspired me to become a Support Coordinator was having the opportunity to make a positive difference in people's lives. I am passionate about helping others achieve their goals, overcome challenges, and grow into the best version of themselves.
How long have you been working in this space, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I am beginning my journey as a Support Coordinator, but I bring over 10 years of experience working in the disability sector. During this time, I have worked as both a Support Worker and in Employment Services.
What I enjoy most is seeing people grow and supporting them through times when life may feel overwhelming or when their goals seem out of reach. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone achieve their goals and witnessing the positive impact it has on their confidence, independence, and overall wellbeing.
What types of support services do you specialise in or have experience with?
Throughout my career, I have supported people across a variety of settings, including Early Childhood, Disability Support, and Employment Services. I have experience working with people with neurodiversity, intellectual disabilities, and psychosocial disabilities.
I have experience in capacity building, community participation, employment support, advocacy, and helping people overcome barriers to achieve their goals. My approach is always person-centred, ensuring every individual feels heard, valued, and supported throughout their journey.
Can you tell me about a particularly rewarding or memorable experience you've had while assisting someone?
One of the most rewarding experiences in my career was supporting a woman who was experiencing significant barriers and had lost confidence in returning to the workforce. After spending many years raising her children, she believed that finding employment was no longer possible for her.
I supported her by connecting her with the right services to improve her mental health, build her confidence, and develop the skills she needed to prepare for employment. She successfully secured a role as a Support Worker and, over time, progressed into a management position.
Watching her transform from someone with little confidence into a person who recognised her strengths, developed a positive mindset, and achieved something she once believed was impossible was an incredibly rewarding experience.
What do you believe are the most important qualities for a Support Coordinator to have?
I believe the most important qualities of a Support Coordinator are patience, empathy, strong organisational skills, and effective communication.
It is also important to be a strong advocate, have excellent problem-solving skills, and always maintain a person-centred approach to supporting participants.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or interests you'd like to share?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active by doing reformer Pilates and going for walks. I'm very family-oriented, and most weekends are spent with my family and close friends.
I love spending quality time with my husband and children, making memories together and enjoying life's simple moments.
