A little about me.
What inspired you to become a Support Coordinator?
Working in the industry I want the challenge of being a support coordinator. I want to assist people with a more person centred approach rather than from a large provider approach. I hope to make people feel seen and heard and provide people with choice and control. I also wanted to learn something new
How long have you been working in this space, and what do you enjoy most about it? I have been working as a SC since June 2023,
Love the fact that everyday is different
Love the fact that I’m always learning
Love meeting people
Since working in this space I have learnt that not all days are good days however treat everyday like a good day Experiencing people’s growth – watching people achieve their goals. The power of choice
What types of support services do you specialise in or have experience with? I believe I don’t specialise in one category exactly, but I have good qualities that I believe assist me to be classified as an ‘all-rounder’ Experience with coordinating / scheduling services and ability to maintain consistency and allow a space for communication. I’m a great problem solver. I specialise in ensuring people that I will always engage – meaning ability to support accordingly based on an individual’s needs.
Can you tell me about a particularly rewarding or memorable experience you’ve had while assisting someone? Participant had come on board specifically due to insufficient funds and had high care needs SC spent a lot of time and energy ensuring paperwork, assessments and recommendations were all completed, collected and reports completed submitted to NDIS within a few days. Once emergency plan review was completed – Participant got almost exactly what she needed and was very thankful for the prioritization and effort put into ensuring P was supported throughout this process, SC also supported in organising and ensuring supports were able to continue during the time nil funds in plan.
What do you believe are the most important qualities for a Support Coordinator to have? Compassion, great communication skills, eagerness to learn, the ability to set healthy boundaries, the ability to be honest in a respectful and kind way, non-judgemental, patience.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or interests you’d like to share? I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, going to the beach, surfer family, being active – going to the gym, taking my kelpie for an adventure.
Tell us something we don’t know, but need to know? I once met Arnold Schwarzenegger by accident while travelling in LA I am also a qualified group fitness instructor. I love reading books however always struggled reading without falling asleep – hello and welcome audiobooks – I love listening to a good book while taking my dog for a walk.
